Welcome to the second episode, after Atonement, the series "if I had seen before, it entered the charts at the end of year." The description of the plot is certainly simplistic, but in fact what makes Paranoid Park a great film is not so much what happens, but as it is told. The training of the protagonist, including the disadvantaged family and guilt, between the "girlfriend" and the pervasive sense of belonging a una comunità che tale non è, procede senza colpi di scena, in maniera quasi apatica, e viene seguito dal regista con un freddo distacco che rispecchia in fondo l'atteggiamento di Alex nei confronti del mondo che gli sta intorno. Gus Van Sant, dopo il passo indietro di Last Days , torna ad avanzare sul proprio cammino artistico con un'opera fatta di pochi ma intelligenti dialoghi e di immagini ispirate e ispiranti. La narrazione a incastro, che poteva appesantire lo svolgimento del racconto, riesce invece a risultare naturale come la brillante recitazione del protagonista Gabe Nevins, alla sua prima interpretazione. La poesia di alcune scene rende giustizia al premio ricevuto a Cannes dal regista, che conferma (come se ce ne fosse bisogno) their talent.
