Your The Cheese To My Macaroni Sayings

Tiriamo le somme?

After about 4 days and we will leave behind 2010: blog like any self-respecting also the lair of the rat offers a couple of classify-rite!
"What is the best xxx of the year?" is a question that I do not like: first because I do not choose what to read \\ watch in the year of release: I prefer to fish at random. This year, for example, I read very few novels published in 2010.
Second, because, in general, the results of these "polls" tend to be much more uniform.
prefer to put it down in these terms: what was your best read of the year? Here, so can you also tell me, I know, Canticle of the Creatures, and that's great!

For me 2010 was a successful year in literature, much more stingy in that film. Well, I've read wonderful novels, but I have seen very few really good films.
Books? Here's my aces:
  • Mice and Men
  • The Girl Next Door
  • Cathedral (yes, the extended rat-ignition is always on site)
  • Neuromancer
As you can see, only Ketchum's novel (written in 1989) was published in Italy in 2010.
The average level of the finalists is frighteningly high and the choice is not easy, but seen to be done, I bow at the feet of the Scriptures and the decree Cathedral best book I read in 2010.

Let the cinema here the situation is even more complicated, or because the number of films I've seen this year is much lower than in 2009, either because the average quality of works in which I stumbled upon is very low, add some unexpected disappointment ... few things well, but something good you still can not get him out. Another nice Pokerino (bet that I have lost someone in the street?):
Prize Shane Meadows , which also gave me the best TV series of the year : gold medal therefore Dead Man's Shoes.

And finally the good intentions for the year come. As you can see, consistency is not really my forte: I prefer not to show off who knows if I'll keep that promise. On the other hand, making public some small goal might encourage them to update their pages more frequently Tana. Let's do this: in this case I put down a good poker, a poker of Rats. Here is my 4 resolutions for 2011:
  • First I want to take care of most of Italian fiction. In fact, let's say I want to take care of Italian fiction. I've never been a big reader of novels our own. The literature that has always fascinated me most is the American. But recently I read kind words about some newcomers to our house I believe it is the responsibility of the network to give voice to those who are crushed by the business logic and marketing effort to have no space anywhere else? Ok, maybe some kind of feel sorry for the Italian scene, it's all a magna magna, etc.. I do not care: I want to take care of novels, the rest is crap.
  • Secondly, I read all the prose work of Carver. And do not think I need to justify this choice.
  • There are three empty shelves in my library (figuratively eh, Tana has no place in it for a 100pagine1000lire) that I plan to fill, even in part: Fritz Leiber, who have not you go to bed mad and furious receiving threats; David Foster Wallace, who abo gave me a head so, and William Faulkner, frightening abyss of ignorance staff.
  • last but not least, I wish that 2011 was the year of the final passing of the digital paper. A little 'because, as I wrote above, if I continue to buy mallopponi 800 pages in a little' I have to evict the dog a bit 'because I believe that the eBook surclassi the paper almost across the board.
I will endeavor to keep their commitments, as always, you are allowed to crucify me in the lunchroom where you will find that laziness has taken once again over.

What Is Espnu And How Do You Get It?

David Peace, 1974: la rat-censione

David Peace, 1974
Meridiano Zero
408 pages, € 9.00
ISBN: 9788882371180

Yorkshire, 1974, winter. The English winter, what makes the freezing rain like a blade of ice that penetrates the flesh and bones. Edward Dunford, crime correspondent of the Yorkshire Post for the North of England, he smells the odor of scoop: Morley in the town of a little girl of 7 years, disappears, a case that seems to have many similarities with other two disappearances in the past. Two other girls, whose bodies were never found. Only, this time, the body of Clare Kemplay is found, through mud and debris from a construction site. Naked, covered with bruises, scratches and blood, signs of a horrible violence, hard to bear. And two swan wings sewn on the back. Edward wants the truth, but truth does not seem interested at all in most of the people has to do during the investigation: colleagues, police, politicians more or less influential, more or less corrupt. A truth that, despite the resistance, threats, torture and murder, gradually comes to light, carrying with it the dross of violence and lies that pollute the social relations at all levels.

1974 is the third novel by David Peace in which I come across. In the beginning was Tokyo Year Zero , not really a debut downhill. The first chapter of "trilogy Japanese (Of which Assayer has recently published the second installment, also available in eBook ) I won thanks to the writing dense, obsessive, aimed at making paper, in fact, obsession and alienation of the protagonist, Inspector Mikami. Having read the last word I put down the novel with the certainty that sooner or later, I again had to do with the English writer. It happened some time later with The Damned United , the best sports-themed novel I have ever read. The Brian Clough of Peace came to the right in the Hall of Fame of my favorite literary characters.

first chapter of the Red Riding Quartet, 1974 is also the debut novel of Peace, which earned him lavish praise from critics and the flattering combination of James Ellroy: hack any one mica. But I've never read Ellroy's even a line and I do not know if the combination is guessed or not. I only know that 1974 is a beautiful novel that deserves all the fame that has earned.

Writing Peace has a big advantage: you stick to your skin and you do not spring any more.

Edward Dunford, crime correspondent for the North of England, whose naive ambition and obsessive search for truth at any cost, cost the lives of more than a person who crosses his path. A road that runs through the young reporter regardless of what is around him: her against a wall after another, gets up, the wounds still bleeding, he leaves, bumps into another wall, looks around with eyes swollen, you up again. And so on. The higher wall, the omertà, is also the most difficult to break down. The ruins bury all those who try to get a hole in the concrete to see what lurks behind it: dirty deals, rigged contracts, buildings built on the blood, silence and protection bought their weight in gold, the rampant corruption. And violence against girls as a hobby for those who can afford to buy everything. Welcome to Yorkshire: here you do not save anyone. Here we are in the North and those in charge do what they like.

The merits of the novel are so many: style, setting, characterization, time management of the narrative. Maybe Peace puts far too thinly, and there is no time to give due weight to everything: Edward goes straight on his way, and we with him. But instead of being here to do with fleas and a few minor flaws, I prefer to tell you that among many good things, there's something really good: Chapter 10, page 351 to page 368 of this edition . L '"interrogation" by Edward. 17 pages of great writing that I will return here in their entirety, except that I dislocated my fingers and you spoil the surprise. I do not want to ruin the surprise: I want you strung scarf and coat and go to the library to give you a gift. After all, Christmas is always right?

The beginning
- It's not anything, fuck, if not the fucking Lucky Lucan and a pair of crows without wings, damn it, - he smiled Gilman as if it was the happiest day of our lives.

Waiting for my first front-page article, with the signature and everything, finally: Edward Dunford, crime correspondent for the North of England, two days too late, damn.
looked at my watch to my father.
was nine o'clock in the morning and neither one of us poor bastards had been to bed, we went directly from the Press Club in hell, still wearing the stench of beer.

How Much Are Quo Makeup Brushes?

A New York...

Lady Liberty at sunset: how romantic the Rat!
circulate more taxi cars;
there really are water tanks on the roofs of buildings;
there are really red brick houses with iron fire escapes;
onion is everywhere
the wifi is everywhere;
the wind is cold, steady and off the ears;
squirrels infesting Central Park, Manhattan haunt
Italians;
99% of the trades "humble" or "fatigue" is played by African Americans, Hispanics or Asian;
99% of the seats of power is occupied by whites;
a pair of Levi's 501 costs 50 dollars (about 37 €) at full price;
an "espresso" coffee at Starbucks costs about $ 2;
an iPad coast $ 499, not 499 €;
Ground Zero is a gigantic building site and yes, I admit, I was less impressed than I expected;
you can cross the Brooklyn Bridge on foot and yes, I admit, I was very excited more than I expected;
I bought a Christmas ball-shaped
Harley Davidson Cross Bones ;
libraries are huge (think
Strand contains 18 miles of books, whatever that means), but not one I have found a novel by Brian Keene Jack Ketchum or, if
Little Italy and Chinatown are neighbors, there is a reason;

before entare tunnel in Manhattan, coming from Queens, there is an immense open-air cemetery: the graves occupy your entire field of view;
I saw the entire third season of Sons of Anarchy;

Dov'eravamo rimasti? Ah sì, ecco. A New York...

All Stars... and Stripes
ho visto un tizio vestito da Ghostbuster con una radio che suonava la musichetta di Ghostbusters davanti alla New York Public Library : sì, quella dove hanno girato l'inizio di Ghostbusters;
i jingle natalizi ti perseguitano anche in ascensore;
ho assistito a un'intera messa in una chiesa episcopale metodista di Harlem , gospel e improperi del predicatore pazzo inclusi;
ho visto una Stars and Stripes made of Converse All Star;
the infamous hot dog stalls are more or less at every street corner;
that Manhattan is built on a volcano?
I ate pancakes at 'International House of Pancakes : they are disgusting;
are really white and red chimneys from which the smoke comes out, I was the notorious
melacubo Apple, and is not nothing to it;
I read the first part of Mangianomi : very classic tale from the plant, but we can do De Feo;
are the schoolbus yellow, just like in the movies;
climbed to the top at Rockefeller Center and I could not see the end of the city's public library
coolest in the world: yes, the one where they filmed the beginning of Ghostbusters;
I found a copy of White Noise De Lillo to 76 cents;

Re Ratto sbarca in America

Well yes, after Beijing and Tokyo, it is finally time to fly across another ocean to conquer New York City!
8 million inhabitants (nearly 20 if we extend the urban area) spread over 1214 km square: a legendary city, the quintessential metropolis americana.
Goodbye fellas!

Custom Warrior Lacrosse Pinnies

I think it will attach to the tail post.

Why incipit fascinate me and often tell a lot about what awaits the unwary reader, can join hands and bring it obediently to unexplored places and wonderful, or hurl it into the action without notice, can frighten, fascinate in horror.

The beginning is important, strikes the first blow, the steady rhythm, which shows us borrow your eyes to see, reveals the narrator and point of view.

Here are two which are particularly fond of:
The Man in Black Fled across the desert And The Gunslinger Followed.
The sky above the port Was the color of the television, tuned to a dead channel.
Perfetti.
